Creative Talk: Cindy Susantio, Emerging Graphic Designer from Indonesia

Cindy Susantio is still quite young. The Indonesian beauty is 21 and she’s still studying graphic design at one of the most famous universities in the country. But don’t underestimate her. She’s currently a working as a freelance graphic designer in addition to working for 3 different companies, all of which allow her to meet different people and experiment with different styles.

Hi, Cindy. I’ve searched a bit about you, and you seem to have a lot on your plate right now. May I know what you’re currently working on that excites you?

I work in several companies, but currently I start to work with a cosmetic brand. Its very exciting because as a part-time creative director there, I work with so many professionals and also influencers around Indonesia. I learn a lot from different people, and learn more experience about being in charge as a creative director. Designing packagings, how to do campaign and market our products. It is really exciting for me.

 

Does your style influence your work?

 

I work with different brands, different people, different styles – so I actually adjust my work and design in to each style on what we try to approach on different brands/companies. It’s all about how you communicate with the market and audience through my visuals.

 

Tell me more about your experience in the creative industry

 

This kind of industry offers a lot of big opportunities and learning, it is not only about sit in front of your computer but also learn how to communicate with your clients, building your network, and keep observing on different things that are happening around you.

 

 

Where do you think your creativity comes from?

 

Everywhere!

 

 

What is your favorite artwork?

 

This is a hard question really – I have so many favorites. I love everything that looks good for me and have their own aesthetics and what really visualize their brands. I’m into more advertising these days.

 

Then, what kind of art is unappealing to you?

 

I like everything – from 2D, 3D and films. But ‘Kitsch’ art or design is very unappealing to me.

 

Are you inspired by anything new lately?

 

Yes, advertising and campaign videos. I’m very interested to learn video editing.

 

As a young artist, please share your thoughts on being an illustrator in today’s world

 

Being a creative person in today’s world is really important. Especially when visuals in today’s world developing into one of most powerful tools to communicate.
