MTV TV Awards 2017: Emma Watson Wins MTV’s First Genderless Award in History

We all know that Emma Watson is such a brilliant girl with a brilliant carrier too. But who think that she can actually beats Hollywood veterans like Hugh Jackman?

2017 is the first year for MTV to abolish gender in their award category. And Emma’s amazing act in Beauty and the Beast makes her crowned as the winner of the Best Actor in a Movie category, defeating the A-listers Hugh Jackman (Logan), James McAvoy (Split), Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figures), Hailee Steinfield (The Edge of Seventeen), and Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out). Emma was touched by this and mentioned that MTV’s effort to present a genderless award as a meaningful action.

“MTV’s move to create a genderless award for acting will mean something different to everyone”, the 27 years old actress said. “But to me, it indicates that acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. And that doesn’t need to be separated into two different categories. This is very meaningful to me.”

Hugh Jackman, who starred the R-rated Logan movie, is predicted to bring home the award. Logan is a super hit. His menacing acting and bloodshed scenes makes Logan earned more than $85.3 million in the first weekend after it’s released. But apparently, Emma’s innocent role can enchant worldwide people better than Wolverine’s adamantium claws.

Four weeks after Beauty and the Beast release date, it’s already scored $900 million gross earnings (wow!). The combination of Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, and Ian McKellen acting is more than enough to turn people’s eyes to the Disney tale movie. And add to that, Ariana Grande signature high notes in the soundtrack department also boost the attractiveness of this classical tale. Emma’s role is just perfect in the movie. And MTV’s audiences agreed to that. Through the online voting on MTV award official page, it is proven that Emma has more fans now than the rest of the nominees. It looks like 2017 is the year of Belle. Congratulation!
