Ryan Reynolds Tapped for First Pokemon Live-Action Movie

The first live-action movie focusing on Pokemon is underway via Legendary. And the team behind the project titled “Detective Pikachu” has added Ryan Reynolds to the cast which already includes Justice Smith and “Big Little Lies” actress Kathryn Newton, according to The Hollywood Reporter which first broke the story.

The film will follow Smith’s teenager character who in attempt to save his kidnapped father is forced to team up with Pikachu, a “self-styled investigator who is good at finding things. Reynolds will play the titular detective with a motion-capture performance, while Newton will depict a journalist who provide supports for them.

“Detective Pikachu” is directed by “Goosebumps” helmer Rob Letterman based on a script penned by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch. Filming is scheduled to begin in London next month. Universal Picture will distribute the movie in countries all over the world, except for Japan where Toho will handle the distribution.

The live-action film is inspired by “Pokemon” which was first introduced in 1996 in Japan. Since then, the franchise has sold millions of video games worldwide and billions of merchandises. It was also adapted into animated series that has lasted for 20 seasons, as well as an augmented reality games called “Pokemon Go” that become wildly popular last year.

So far, there’s still no word on when “Detective Pikachu” will come out. But if you can’t wait too long to see Reynolds in action, then head to nearby theaters on June 1, 2018 for “Deadpool 2”. The Canadian actor will reprise his role as the foul-mouthed anti-hero in the sequel.

We finally get a Pokemon live action movie, and it has probably nothing to do with Pokemon. This is gonna turn out bad imo. Did Ryan even get to see a script or something?

It’s weird that Pikachu is talking and trying to solve cases. It’s not like Pikachu or any Pokemon would do
