Jewelry can be made of anything, even doll’s eyeballs!
Kt Ferris, a Brooklyn-based jewelry artist, uses doll’s eyeballs as part of her jewelry. Although we know that there’s no such thing as magical items like the ones featured in Disney movies, Ferris’s jewelries make us believe that. Why? Just take a look at this picture.
The combination of eyeballs and the jewelry design is so witchy. Moreover, the eyes can open and close its eyelids just like the one you find in common dolls. It sparks a sense that these eyes are actually real. Imagine if you wear it to Halloween party while dressed up as Rita Repulsa. There’s no one that could beat your look!
But, really, how Ferris makes this unique jewelry?
Well, I must warn you, the technique may be a bit creepy. The reason why the eyeballs look so real is because it’s pulled straight out of a doll’s head. Ferris doesn’t just buy a pair of doll’s eyes in art supply shops, but she picks her “victims.” She uses a cutter to cut the area around the eyeballs and pulls it out. Then she makes a wax mold for the jewelry and adds a space to hold the eyeballs. The metal will be shaped according to the wax molding. She’ll attach the eyeballs into the jewelry once the metal cools down. And voila! Eyeballs jewelry is ready for you to wear.
If you wonder what kind of jewelry Ferris makes with these eyeballs, she makes almost everything, starting from rings to headbands. You can buy her works at her website, www.ktferriscollections.com or get to know her more by following her on Instagram, @ktferriscollections.
