As the new year approaches, WhatsApp is bidding farewell to phones with older operating systems. The Facebook-owned application has announced that it would end support for devices running on Blackberry OS as well as some Windows phones. Specifically, it would no longer support every BlackBerry phone, including those running on BlackBerry 10, and Windows Phone 8.0 and older starting on December 31.
This means, the messaging service will continue to work on these platforms. But after the forthcoming weekend, users won’t be able to create new accounts or re-verify existing accounts. Meanwhile, those with Windows phones running on 8.1 and above shouldn’t have to worry.
However, WhatsApp claimed that the app could stop functioning at any time, so owners of phones with the aforemetioned devices may want to start considering a new Android or Apple phone for the new year.
