We all know that Nintendo Switch is a big success. Everyone loves the system and it’s been a must have console for gamers (and non gamers too, to be honest) from all around the world. But how many units has exactly the Switch sold since its launch earlier this year?
Nintendo has proudly announced that the Switch has so far sold 10 million units worldwide since it hit the market nine months ago. Nearly one third of the number was made up of sales from Black Friday promotions. With a price tag of $300 per unit, that means Nintendo has made more than $3 billion from the Switch this year alone.
Released in March, the Switch has been a big hit mostly due to the features which make it possible for users to connect it to a TV like a traditional console or use it as a mobile device. “It’s a powerful idea for a gamer to never have to leave their game experience behind. That’s been a cornerstone of our strong performance to date,” said President and COO of Nintendo America Reggie Fils-Aime.
But it doesn’t mean Nintendo hasn’t faced any trouble with the Switch at all. Due to the increasing demand, the company had some manufacturing problems related to its supply chain.
Those problems aside, this has been a big year for Nintendo. With 10 millions units sold in various countries across the globe, the Switch is set to outperform Nintendo’s previous release – the Wii U that has only sold around 13 million units since its release in 2012. It won’t come as a big surprise either if the Switch will eventually outsell Playstation 4, which has sold 70 million units worldwide since its arrival in 2013.
